Clay Aiken Biography

Born November 30, 1978
Born Place: Raleigh, North Carolina

Clay Aiken was the runner up in the season two of American Idol. His real name is Clayton Holmes Grissom. While his mother Faye Aiken was a strong woman who would later inspire her son throughout his life, his father Vernon Grissom was another story. His father was an alcholic and walked out on his family when Clay was just one years old.

Clay has been singing since he was a little kid around the house. Without any formal musical training, Clayton continued singing throughout high school. In fact, he often sang at school functions. Also, it was during this period, in the late '90s, that he finally decided to put his deadbeat biological father behind him and legally changed his name to Aiken, his mother's maiden name.

Before entering American Idol, Clay had recorded two demo CD's and decided to enter the competition at age 23 at the suggestion of the mother of an austestic kid that Aiken was taking care of.

At the American Idol Finale, Clay Aiken lost to Ruben Studdard only by 134,400 votes.

Clay Aiken released the album Measure of a Man in October 2003, Merry Christmas With Love in November 2004 and A Thousand Different Ways in September 2006.
